Organization Policy on Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and the JHM IRB (Policy No. 103.22)
May 2005

The Organization requires individuals who collect and/or ship specimens to register with the Institutional Biosafety Committee.  This requirement extends to research protocols. The JHM IRB will inform investigators, through a provision in the New Application Form, of this requirement and the IBC will communicate regularly with the OHSR staff to assure that the requirement is met.  For projects that involve gene transfer, the IBC must approve the protocol.  Final JHM IRB approval of a gene transfer project must await IBC approval.
